Test 4G or 5G without an app
Turn off WiFi before starting if you specifically want to test cellular data. The browser will transfer test data over the active connection and calculate throughput and response time. Results can change quickly as you move because a phone selects different cells, frequencies and network modes.
The test uses real data. Although transfers are capped, avoid repeated testing when your mobile allowance is limited or roaming charges apply.
Why mobile speeds vary so much
Signal bars do not describe network capacity. Building materials, distance to the cell, frequency band, weather, movement and the number of people using the site all matter. A strong signal can still be slow when a cell is congested, while a weaker high-capacity connection may perform well.
- Test indoors and near a window to compare building loss.
- Repeat at the same place during busy and quiet periods.
- Keep the phone still until each run finishes.
- Compare latency as well as the largest download number.
What is a good 4G or 5G result?
A stable 10–25 Mbps connection handles browsing, calls and HD video. Higher speeds make large downloads and high-resolution streaming more comfortable. For games and live calls, low ping and low jitter can matter more than whether the download result is 100 or 300 Mbps.
