Privacy policy

Privacy at a glance

  • No account is required to run a speed test or IP lookup.
  • The service necessarily processes your IP address and temporary measurement traffic.
  • A shareable result contains a masked IP, not the complete address.
  • We do not request GPS or precise device location.
  • Advertising and analytics requests occur only when those services are configured.

Scope and contact

This policy explains how SpeedTestOne processes information when you use this website, its internet-speed test, IP tools, result pages and guides. For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@speedtestone.com. We may need enough information to understand and verify a request, but please do not email passwords or unnecessary identity documents.

Information processed automatically

When you visit or run a test, the following information may be processed automatically:

  • Your public IP address, approximate country, region or city inferred from the IP, internet provider, autonomous system number and routed network prefix.
  • Download speed, upload speed, unloaded and loaded latency, jitter, transferred data volume, test duration, stream count, selected measurement destination and test time.
  • Browser and device characteristics exposed by the browser, language preference, approximate connection type, referring page, requested URLs and standard server-log information.
  • Interactions with the website, such as page views and feature usage, when analytics is enabled.

We do not ask the browser for GPS coordinates. IP-based location is approximate and can identify a provider gateway, VPN, proxy, corporate network or mobile carrier location rather than the device’s physical position.

How the speed test works

Your browser sends temporary latency, download and upload requests to the measurement server shown in the interface. The selected operator necessarily receives the source IP and ordinary request metadata. Cloudflare operates the global fallback; separately identified owned or authorized nodes may be used when configured. Measurement traffic is required to calculate the result and can consume significant data on a fast connection.

SpeedTestOne does not send the completed result to the measurement operator as a separate result record. Infrastructure providers may still retain operational or security logs according to their own terms and configured retention periods.

IP and provider lookups

The My IP tool displays the public address visible to the service. To identify the network owner and ASN, our server may send the address to IPinfo when a commercial token is configured or to RIPEstat as a fallback. A requested detail lookup may also send the entered public IP to IPWhoIs, GeoJS or ipapi for approximate geolocation and to Google Public DNS for an optional reverse-DNS hostname. When coordinates are available, the detail page loads an interactive map from OpenStreetMap, which receives the visitor’s ordinary request metadata. Browser-side Cloudflare endpoints may be used to detect the public address when the same-origin service sees only a local development address. These providers process requests under their own privacy terms.

Browser storage and shareable results

We use local or session storage to remember the light/dark theme, interface language, recent result links and limited test information:

  • A result URL can contain speed metrics, latency, jitter, test volume and duration, a masked IP, provider, ASN, network prefix, destination, connection label, method and test time.
  • The complete IP and approximate client location are kept only in the current browser tab so the tester can see them on the result page. They are not included as complete values in the shareable link.
  • Up to ten recent result links may be retained locally on the device.

You can remove this information through your browser’s site-data controls. Private browsing modes may clear it automatically.

Why we use information

  • Provide the speed test, IP lookup, localized interface and shareable results.
  • Select a healthy measurement destination and diagnose performance or availability problems.
  • Protect the service, control abuse, investigate errors and maintain infrastructure.
  • Understand aggregate usage and improve accessibility, content and performance.
  • Comply with applicable law, legal process and enforceable requests.

Analytics, advertising and cookies

The site uses Vercel Analytics and Google Analytics 4 when those services are configured to understand aggregate product usage, page visits and feature performance. Google may process device, browser, approximate location and interaction information according to its own privacy terms.

When Google Analytics is configured, SpeedTestOne records test starts, stops, completions and errors; result-share or copy actions; and browser performance measurements such as LCP, INP and CLS. These custom analytics events do not include the measured speed result, complete IP address, provider name or shareable result token. A completed-test event can be configured as a key event in Google Analytics to measure whether visits lead to a useful test.

SpeedTestOne includes the Google AdSense tag to connect the site to our advertising account and, after approval, to deliver and measure ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, may place and read cookies on your browser or use web beacons, IP addresses and other identifiers as a result of advertising on this site. Google uses advertising cookies to help Google and its partners serve ads based on a user’s previous visits to SpeedTestOne or other websites. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

You can control personalized Google advertising through Google Ads Settings. You may also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising through YourAdChoices, where available. Browser controls can block or remove cookies, although doing so may affect analytics or advertising features. Blocking advertising or analytics does not prevent the core speed test from working.

We do not sell personal information for money. Some privacy laws may define targeted advertising disclosures as “sharing” or a “sale.” Before personalized advertising is enabled in a region that requires it, SpeedTestOne will use the required consent or opt-out controls, including a certified consent platform where Google requires one. Your available choices depend on your location.

When information may be disclosed

Information may be processed by hosting, measurement-node, provider-lookup, analytics, security and advertising vendors only for their relevant services. It may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or the service, investigate abuse, or complete a merger, financing, acquisition or transfer of the website, subject to applicable safeguards.

Retention and security

Browser-stored results remain until they are cleared, displaced by newer entries or removed by the browser. Hosting, security, lookup and advertising providers set their own log-retention periods. We aim to retain operator-controlled information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, legal obligations and dispute resolution.

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the service, but no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction or objection, and to withdraw consent. You may also have the right to complain to a local data-protection authority. We will respond to valid requests as required by applicable law. Because the service has no account system and intentionally retains limited identifying information, we may sometimes be unable to associate a request with server logs without additional verification.

Children, international processing and external links

The service is intended for a general audience and is not designed to knowingly collect information directly from children. Visitors who are not old enough to consent under local law should use the service with a parent or guardian. Providers may process data in countries other than your own, subject to their safeguards and applicable transfer rules. External websites linked from SpeedTestOne have separate privacy practices.

Policy changes

We may update this policy when the service, vendors or legal requirements change. The revised page will show a new “Last updated” date. Material changes may receive additional notice where required.
