IP Address Lookup

Enter a public IPv4 or IPv6 address to look up its network provider, ASN, reverse-DNS hostname and approximate location.

Use an address such as 1.1.1.1 or 2606:4700:4700::1111. No account is required.

What does an IP lookup show?

An IP address lookup returns available network registration, routing and geolocation information about an address. It does not identify the person using it or verify that a device is online.

  • ISP and ASN: the network operator and autonomous system associated with the address. This may be a hosting company or wholesale carrier rather than a household's retail provider.
  • Network prefix: the routed address range, when supplied by the data source.
  • Hostname: an optional reverse-DNS record. A missing hostname is normal.
  • Approximate location: country, region, city and timezone when available. Map coordinates describe an estimated area.

How to look up an IPv4 or IPv6 address

  1. Paste a public IP address into the field above. Do not include a website URL, port or network prefix.
  2. Select Look up IP to open its report.
  3. Check the source attribution alongside the results. Missing fields are shown as unavailable, rather than estimated from unrelated data.

Private addresses such as 192.168.1.1 and local IPv6 addresses identify devices within a network. They do not have a public location or provider report in this tool.

Where the IP information comes from

Network information comes from IPinfo when configured, with RIPEstat as the registry fallback. Approximate location comes from IPWhoIs, with GeoJS and ipapi as fallbacks. Reverse-DNS records are queried through Google Public DNS. Each report identifies the sources actually used.

The submitted address is included in the report URL and sent to the data services needed for the lookup. Reports are excluded from search indexing, but anyone with the URL can open them. See our privacy policy and methodology.

Can IP lookup find an exact address?

No. IP geolocation does not provide GPS coordinates for a device or identify a home or person. A VPN, mobile carrier or corporate gateway can make the reported location differ from the user's location. The lookup does not request browser location permission.

Registration and location data can be incomplete or outdated, and different sources may disagree. An IP lookup cannot establish whether an address is safe or malicious.
